Welcome to The College Skinny!
Staying fit and healthy has long been an issue for Americans, but especially college-age women. Young women are held to the standards of being thin, youthful, radiant and beautiful. However, maintaining a healthy body image and lifestyle can be difficult for women in college. College life can be hectic and overwhelming between schoolwork, deadlines for papers, projects and exams, extra-curricular activities, part-time jobs and social lives. Even with all of those activities, physical activity and keeping yourself must remain a priority. For college students, exercise and weight management are important to healthy lifestyles. Maintaining proper fitness levels and making smart food choices will help you feel healthy and energized and improve overall quality of life. Proper exercise, diet, sleeping habits and smart lifestyle behaviors are ingredients for a healthy and successful college career.
As for the name of our blog, TheCollegeSkinny, we do not want to confuse you with the title and our intention of the blog. TheCollegeSkinny promotes proper health and fitness levels among college aged females, not excessive thinness and to be “skinny”. Our blog will create awareness to health and fitness issues, not enforce that women be skinny. We are using a play on words by using “skinny” in our name to emphasize how we are giving viewers inside information on current health and fitness issues.
Within the past couple of years, Web sites and blogs concerning these topics have become prevalent. However, most tend to target the general public, only women, only men or specific health problems. Very few target solely college age women. We want to give college aged women the opportunity to gather advice on aspects of health and fitness, as well as maintain a healthy lifestyle. We also want to generate comfort and companionship for you so you know you are going through everything alone.
The current problem is that there are not many blogs out there pertaining to YOU. That transition period can be very intimidating, overwhelming and daunting to women. We hope to provide a credible, informative and comfortable environment for you.
Each week we will be highlighting a new food or recipe and an exercise for you to test out. Get ready and enjoy yourself!
